LTM Mobile Crane helps Heddle Construction move in front of island competition.
Orkney-based contractor Heddle Construction has recently added a Liebherr LTM 1220-5.2 mobile crane to its hire fleet, making the firm owners of the largest mobile crane based in the Orkney Isles. Featuring a 60m telescopic main boom and a 12.20 –22m swing away fly jib capable of offsetting at 0°, 45° and 60°, the new 220-tonner is the latest addition to the firm’s all-Liebherr mobile crane fleet.
Heddle Construction bought the mobile crane to help handle an increasing workload generated by demand from clients in the marine support and renewable energy sectors.
Liebherr supplied the crane with 4t of extra counterweight, in addition to the standard 78t, to allow the crane to reach a 1.7t lifting capacity when rigged with 22m of fly jib and working at a 76m radius.
When rigged with the fly jib at it’s maximum length, the LTM 1220-5.2 has a maximum under hook height of 61m with an optimum load of 6.1t.
Heddle Construction director Mark Heddle said: “ We are very much planning for the future in buying this mobile crane and it has already been proving its worth in precision lifts at both height and radius. We’ve been running 40 and 60t capacity Liebherr mobiles in our fleet for many years and this new acquisition, is very much our flagship, adding an extra dimension to our capabilities.”
The mobile crane also features two 97/68/EG stage 3a and EPA/CARB Tier 3 compliant Liebherr engines, producing 370kW of power for the upper and 180kW for the carrier.
Electronic control is provided by Liebherr’s proprietary LICCON computer system, and a 12-speed ZF gearbox featuring the Astronic automatic control system is used for the transmission.
