In the last quarter of 2015, Sarens Group deployed a crane that was equipped with a premium Boom Booster kit to haul a 641t distillation column. (This column was stationed in the Gulf Coast of the United States.)

Having the capacity (maximum) of 1,600t, the Terex CC 8800-1 crane was chosen to do the task of moving a column of length 87m. (This crane is renowned to streamline worldwide transportation of heavy materials.) In order to finish the lift involving a 28m radius and a 96m boom length, the crane was fitted with a Boom Booster kit, which was developed by Terex.

With this kit added, the CC 8800-1 (crane) had considerably improved its lifting capacity. The kit featured lower and upper adapter segments that easily improved the width of the boom. (Once the kit was added, the boom’s width became threefold—approximately 10m.)

Apart from these adapter segments, the Boom Booster kit consisted of five intermediate segments (where each segment was 10m long). With these intermediary segments, the structural integrity along with the lift capacity was improved by approximately 90 percent.

For lifting the distillation column, the Terex CC 8800-1’s boom’s 72m (out of 108m) was configured to carry the Boom Booster kit. This kit enabled the crane not only to provide sufficient capacity but also to offer adequate rigging headroom. The crane also featured possibly the PAT Hirschmann angle sensor to measure elevation, inclination (of objects), and angles of slope accurately.

By being equipped with such stellar components, the Terex CC 8800-1 was destined to achieve this remarkable feat in the craning landscape.
