Creating a revolutionary wave in crane industry, Manitowoc Company, Inc.—a US–based global leader in cranes and foodservice equipment—has introduced a dynamic MCR 160 luffing jib tower crane having10-tonne capacity. Manufactured in Zhangjiagang (China), this crane is inspired by European MR 160 and matches its technical competency.

According to the data released by Manitowoc, this crane offers an exceptional capacity and performs well. It can have up to 50 m of main jib and a 2.4–tonne capacity at the end of the jib. Joining the series of the MCR 225 A, the MCR 160 is the second Potain luffing jib crane to be produced at Manitowoc’s Zhangjiangang facility.

The configurations of the crane are possible for internal or external applications. Internal climbing is popular in Asia for tall buildings because it provides excellent site coverage with smaller crane and shorter jib.

Kwong-Joon Leong—working as a regional product manager for tower cranes at Manitowoc—mentioned that this crane can be assembled on 1.6 m and 2 m wide mast sections to meet internal configuration, even in more limited construction designs. “With the MCR 160 we worked very hard to deliver a crane that can be mounted on narrower mast sections, in addition to our larger 2 m-wide mast sections, which means contractors can use them on more projects,” Leong said. “The end result is a crane with excellent lift capacity as well as great flexibility.”

The technical configuration of this crane is as follows:

  • Three types of winches are available—the standard 60 LVF 25 (45 kW, 2.5 tonnes at 88 m/min), the 55 kW 75 LVF 25 Optima (2.5 tonnes at 95 m/min) and the 100 LVF 25 Optima.
  • A 75 kW hoist is able to lift weight of 2.5 tonnes at a speed of up to 128 m/min.
  • The rope capacity is 1,270 m for tall buildings.

With this crane, the company is targeting demand of potential Asian markets, including India, Singapore and Latin America.
